A full weekend of Street Photography in Barcelona, with both classroom and shooting time, combining lectures, technique, critique and editing. Very small groups to allow for a more personalised feedback.

DESCRIPTION

This workshop is very much based on practice, but the first day (Friday, 4h) will be focused entirely on classroom time, with first a lecture and then critique from your previous work. I'll share useful tips about camera settings, technique, composition and more, and we'll see which are usually the key ingredients that make a photo successful. This will provide us with tools for better analyzing and becoming more critical towards our own work.



Saturday & Sunday will be mostly about practice. I'll be shooting alongside you and sharing tips and ideas on how to capture the extraordinary in the everyday, and how to shoot with confidence on the streets.

Students will be immersed in an intuitive and playful approach to Street Photography. We'll walk and walk, and see and try and fail and try again, and walk, and see and react, compose, recompose, wait, think, discuss — And then again and again, always trying to get the best out of every situation we encounter. 

Some scenes will be about reacting fast, with no second chances; others will be slower and with more time to think and to anticipate about where to position ourselves to get the best out of it, to make a clearer composition that strenghtens the idea/message of the photo. We'll follow our intuition and play with the spontaneous ideas we get along the way. And we'll stay optimistic and always give chance a chance to make its appearance.

Each student will get my honest critique, where I'll go into detail about WHY I think a photo works or it does not, and HOW it could have been improved. This will help you have a better understanding when it comes to analyzing your own photos. You'll become more demanding and you'll also get more confident on the editing desk.

LOCATION

Barcelona (my hometown) is one of the best cities in Europe for street photography: great weather, very diverse shooting areas within walking distance and lots of things constantly going on. We'll take advantage of all of that plus we'll have our lunch breaks at a couple of authentic (and cheap) home-made food restaurants.

The 2 main meeting points will be Plaça Reial (classroom location) and Plaça Sant Jaume, both in the Gothic Quarter. The shooting will take place in and around that neighborhood, and also in El Born, Eixample around Plaça Catalunya, Arc de Triomf, Parc de la Ciutadella, Port Vell, and La Barceloneta. There will be no pre-planned route: we will let the photos guide us through the city, as I usually do.

REQUIREMENTS

We'll walk around 15km during the day, so bring a good pair of comfortable shoes. You're free to bring any camera/lens of your choice, or even shoot with your smartphone, but I recommend using a focal length of 28 or 35mm, as they are better for zone-focusing, and as you'll see, zone-focusing is our friend. You'll also need to bring a laptop with Lightroom (or similar) installed.

Payments are processed by Paypal and you'll have the option of using your paypal account or a credit card. You can book your spot directly or send me a message first in case you have any questions. A Paypal fee (10,92€) will be added during checkout.

GENERAL TERMS

• Payment is for tuition only. Accommodation, meals and transport expenses are not included.
• In case a workshop gets cancelled for any reason, participants will receive a 100% refund (except Paypal fee).
• In the event of a cancellation, I am not responsible for reimbursement of travel and accommodation expenses (*)
• If a student cancels, full refund will only apply if it is notified at least 4 weeks before the workshop begins.
(*) It is recommended that you buy refundable air tickets and/or travel insurance.
